Who tests this

One runner, two watches, and a training log that goes back years. Here is exactly what that does and does not qualify me to tell you.

My name is Florian. I live near Bremen in northern Germany and I run because I want to get faster, not because I review watches for a living. That distinction matters for how you should read this site.

What I am actually training for

A half marathon under 1:35. My next races are the swb-Marathon Bremen half on 13 September 2026 and the hella hamburg halbmarathon on 25 October 2026, with the Hamburg Marathon on 25 April 2027 after that. Every measurement on this site comes out of that training block — which means it comes from real sessions with real fatigue, not from a test protocol invented for an article.

What is on my wrist

  • Garmin Forerunner 265 — my daily training watch. Everything I write about Garmin's race predictor, training readiness and heart rate accuracy comes from this device.
  • Apple Watch Series 10 — my everyday watch. It also does something more useful: on many runs I wear both, which turns every session into a two-device comparison. When I say a heart rate reading drifted or a GPS trace was off, I mean it disagreed with another watch on the same run, not that it felt wrong.

What I do not have

I do not have a shelf of test devices. When a page discusses a Coros, a Polar or a Suunto, I am comparing published specifications and other people's testing, not reporting my own wrist time — and the box at the top of that page says so in plain language. If that box lists a watch under "specification comparison only", treat my opinion of it as informed reading, not as a review.

I would rather lose a reader by admitting that than keep one by pretending. Sites that claim to have tested everything have usually tested nothing.

How I get things wrong

Sample sizes here are small — one runner, one physiology, one set of conditions. A heart rate sensor that works on my wrist may fail on yours; a GPS result on my routes says little about yours. Where a finding rests on a handful of sessions, I say how many. Where I later find out I was wrong, I correct the page and date the correction rather than quietly editing it.
